Things to Do in Annecy

Annecy

Surrounded by forested mountains and bordered by an emerald-green lake, Annecy will charm you with its tranquility and authenticity. Near our charming hotel, you can stroll along the canals that have earned the city the nickname «Venice of the Alps.» As you enter the old town, you’ll spot one of Annecy’s most iconic buildings: the Palais de l’Île. This former prison, shaped like a boat, is now an exhibition space.

Next, explore the many churches (Notre-Dame-de-Liesse, Saint-François, Saint-Maurice) and Saint-Pierre Cathedral, built around 1535. Perched on the city’s hillside, be sure to visit Annecy Castle, the former residence of the Counts of Geneva, which now houses the Museum of Contemporary and Regional Art.

Destination

Annecy-le-Vieux

Take advantage of your stay at our hotel to explore Annecy-le-Vieux. Located northeast of Annecy, this charming town—which is also bordered by the lake—offers pleasant walks. As you stroll through the historic center, you can admire the town’s famous bell tower, one of the region’s rarest and most beautiful Romanesque structures. Built in the 12th century, this listed bell tower features, in its upper section, two stories of mullioned windows and a 700-kg bronze bell, which is also listed. During your walks in Annecy, you can also enjoy several castles and fortified houses where many notable figures once stayed, including Eugène Sue and Gabriel Fauré…

Lake Annecy

Lake Annecy

A mirror of azure, where nature meets serenity

In Annecy, a stroll along the lakefront is one of the must-do activities. Starting from downtown, walk through the Jardins de l’Europe, then cross the Pont des Amours to reach the Pâquier. This spacious green area is perfect for relaxing, admiring the mountain peaks overlooking the lake, or renting a rowboat or pedal boat for a trip on the lake. Then take Avenue d’Albigny, lined with century-old plane trees, to reach the Impérial Palace, built in the early 20th century and home to a casino and a convention center. Near the hotel, you’ll find a children’s playground and tennis courts.

The Mountain Ranges

In the heart of the Alps, Annecy is bordered not only by the lake but also by three imposing mountain ranges: the Bauges, the Aravis, and the Bornes. From the lake’s shores, some of these peaks offer a spectacular view, such as Mont Veyrier with its steep cliffs, La Tournette, which rises to 2,351 meters, Le Semnoz with its wooded slopes, and La Sambuy. To the south of the lake, the Aravis range is a true paradise for hikers. This designated nature reserve is home to extraordinary flora and fauna and serves as a nesting site for the golden eagle and the bearded vulture.
